Astronauts
Premise Each six is an astronaut crew. They must
complete their mission to win fame and glory.
Instructions
Equipment needed: Each six will need
a mission booklet (you can download them here - 1st six, 2nd six, 3rd six, 4th six), at least 2
balloons, a drinks bottle top, a long piece of wool, 2 chairs, a straw,
a CD, sticky tape, a pair of scissors, a pencil and their imaginations!
You will also need 6 pictures of 'aliens', 10 small balloons per six, a
kettle, a couple of extra balloons, small pieces of paper, a small
drinks bottle, two bowls, a jam jar, a candle and some matches.
Before the game starts you will need to: 1) Hide the small balloons round your playing area. If playing outside fill with a little water, if inside blow up with air. 2) Hide your six aliens. 3) Set up a table for your experiments. Start the game by giving a mission booklet to each six, along with their equipment. Following their mission booklet they will then: Make a Balloon Rocket (Instructions in Booklet) Conduct Science
Experiments
1) Does the planet’s air expand when it gets hot? Place a deflated balloon over the mouth of a small drinks bottle. Boil a kettle. Carefully pour boiling water into a bowl. Place the drinks bottle in the water and watch what happens to the balloon. 2) Does a fire cause part of the air to be used up? Put water into a bowl. Place a candle in the water and light it. Place a jam jar over the top of the candle so that its neck is under the water. Watch what happens to the water. 3) Can static electricity be used to attract light objects? Blow up a balloon. Scatter small pieces of paper onto the table. Rub the balloon on your hair. Place the balloon near the paper and see what happens to the paper. Make a
Hovercraft Rover
Stick the top of a drinks bottle (the sort
with a small hole) to a CD. (You need really strong glue.) Blow up a
balloon. Twist the neck of the balloon and secure it using a peg. Place
the balloon over the bottle top. Put the hovercraft on the floor and
then take off the peg and watch it glide. If all sixes start from the
same place you can compete to see whose hovercraft goes the furthest.
