Harry Potter and the Brownie Holiday (August 1st - 3rd 2008)

We stayed at the Jarman Centre, Newmarket. Our sixes were Hogwarts, Beauxbaton and Durmstrung. Our rooms were Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. The adults were Professor Trelawney, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, Mad-Eye Moody, Tonks and Hermione.

On arrival we visited Diagon Alley. We collected wizard money from Gringotts and decorated money bags. Then we coloured Hogwarts coasters at Scribbulus' Everchanging Inks, made toy owls and toy owl kites at Eeylops Owl Emporium and were chosen by our wand at Ollivander's.

Next we ate ice cream sundaes at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. We then made the monster book of monsters at Flourish and Blotts and Pygmy Puffs at Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes.

We then got changed into our robes and arrived at Hogwarts. After the sorting ceremony the house cups, S.P.E.W. and the tri-wizard tournament were explained to us. We then ate dinner.

After dinner we played a mystery game. In our sixes we interviewed Snape and five suspects who Snape believed may have broken into his office to steal a potion ingredient. It was then time for hot chocolate and bed. At midnight we woke back up (ha, ha - like we were actually asleep!) and had a midnight feast.

On Saturday morning we woke up to a cooked breakfast. After our duties we went to three Hogwarts lessons. In Muggle Studies we learnt muggle magic tricks.

In Defence Against the Dark Arts we learnt defensive spells.

In Transfiguration we turned goo into pictures and three dimensional objects.

After lessons we made sandwiches and sat outside for a picnic lunch. It was then time for the tri-wizard tournament. We began by building a bridge across an enchanted lake. We demonstrated our skill on a broomstick and our ability to spot small objects by collecting golden keys whilst 'flying'. We brewed a potion to send a dragon to sleep and we solved the riddles of a sphinx.

We searched for basilisk eggs whilst walking backwards with a mirror. We went into the Forbidden Forest along the walk of doom where we were attacked by various dark creatures and wizards. Finally we solved a potion riddle and revealed a hidden treasure (bars of Honeyduke's chocolate). Unfortunately the heavens opened mid-way through the afternoon so some activities had to be cancelled part way through. :(

We had hoped to hold a Quidditch match and campfire but the weather continued to rain, so instead we visited the village of Hogsmeade; buying souvenirs and making chocolate frogs.

After a continental breakfast we packed our bags and cleaned the house. We then peeled potatos and played outside. After dinner we sang the Hogwarts song.
