This
term the younger brownies will be working towards their Friend to
Animals badge and the older brownies will be working towards their
Science Investigator badge. We will all try the Olympia challenge. |
14th April: School
Days - Thinking about school children in the 3rd World During six time the Leprechauns
decorated fans, the Imps tried face painting, the Pixies played Guess
Who games, the Elves sketched with scratch-a-doodle and the Gnomes made
bracelets. We then read letters from 3 school children who live in
third world countries. We talked about the jobs they had to do and why
they sometimes missed school. We then played a hunting/running game
based on the ideas we'd discussed. Next we split into age groups. The
youngest brownies played a board game on our meeting's theme whilst the
older brownies played themed consequences and reverse pass the parcel.
21st April: Disney themed Wide Game During six time the Leprechauns played Operation games, the Imps went on a blindfold hike, the Pixies played card games, the Elves made Keyrings and the Gnomes tried face painting. The brownies then travelled to the land of make believe. To get home they needed to cross the stepping stones of reality - but to do this they needed one magic word for each step. Each word was the secret of a different fictional character. In their quest to return home they helped; Cinderella tidy up and designed a gown for her to wear to the ball, Aladin solve the riddles that were guarding his magic lamp, Robin Hood find where he had burried his treasure and Captain Hook made a cake to poison Peter Pan. 28th April: School
Days - Thinking about children in the 3rd World
During six time the Imps decorated fans, the Leprechauns played Guess
Who Games, the Gnomes played Operation Games, the Pixies played Hunt
the Owl and the Elves tried some face painting. We then played Fishes.
After this a lady from the Raptor Foundation came to talk to us. We met
four owls and held two of them.During six time the Leprechauns
and the Elves painted butterfly pegs, the Imps made plaster casts, the
Pixies played Operation games, and the Gnomes played Hunt the Owl. We
then had a pow-wow to discuss Pack Holiday. After this we played games
to make us think about how much water we use and what it would be like
if we had to travel a long distance to get our water.
12th
May: Sponsored Keep Healthy Challenges
Tonight
we were raising money to help children in the third world. We took part
in some sporting and athletic activities, thought about how well we
wash our hands and clean our teeth with some messy activities, gave
advice to imaginary people on what changes they could make to their
diet to be more healthy and learnt about the organs of the body and how
they can be affected by smoking and heavy drinking. During six time the
Imps were meant to be decorating fans but we couldn't find them, so
they split between the groups. The Leprechauns tried face painting, the
Gnomes painted flower and butterfly pegs, the Elves played Operation
games and the Pixies iced biscuits.
19th May: Owls
2nd June: Science
Investigator and Friend to Animals
During six time the Leprechauns
iced biscuits, the Imps played Guess Who Games, the Pixies painted
butterfly pegs, the Elves went on a blindfold hike and the Gnomes
played Operation games. After six
time, we played games whilst each six visited the six time shop. We
then spilt into two groups. The older brownies made crystals while the
younger ones completed an animal quiz.
9th June: Science Investigator and Friend to Animals After six time we
played Wee-willy-winky. The older brownies then made giant
bubbles by bending old coathangers into interesting shapes and the
younger brownies made anti-littering posters. At the end of the meeting
we did some singing.
16th June: Science Investigator and Friend to Animals After six time we sang and then
played Fishes. Next the older brownies made balloon
powered cars and connected electric ciruits to make a bubble blowing
machine, a beeping car and a beeping maze. The younger brownies played
endangered animal games and then a game which helped them find out
about working animals.
23rd June: Bejing Evening
Tonight
we made pictures from tangram puzzles, ate Chinese food with
chopsticks, watched a video showing Chinese ribbon dancing and then
made up our own ribbon dances to Chinese music.
30th June: Mini
Olympics
On arrival we iced Olympic
rings on fairy cakes, found out about this year's Olympic mascots and
drew one (or made up our own) on a 'discuss' plate. We then took part
in lots of wacky races including a chopstick marshmellow race, balloon
co-operation race, obstacle course and a very silly version of the
triathlon.
7th
July: Bits and Pieces
After
six time we played pass the parcel and musical statues to celebrate a
birthday. We then split into different groups to finish off badge
clauses and start a new badge. One group learnt the manual alphabet
(for deaf-blind people) and played a game to practice using it, another
group learnt about American Independence Day; making shakers decorated
with the US flag and listening to patriotic American songs, a further
group made camouflage dioramas and endangered animal posters to
complete their friend to animal badge. Everyone else made promise
bracelets as part of the badge 'The Right to be Me'. Tonight one
brownie gained a Star Brownie Award for all her achievements over the
past three years. Well done!
14th
July: The Right to be Me and Chill Out Zone
On
arrival the brownies either decorated biscuits or did some hand
painting. We had a pow-wow to discuss pack holiday food and then played
pirates. The older brownies then tried some hand massage while everyone
else made thank you cards as part of their 'Right to be Me' badge. We
then played Keys. Tonight we were joined by a new helper. We decided to
call her Owl.
21st
July: Bramblefields Nature Reserve
We
walked to our local nature reserve where we ate a picnic. We then
played nature themed games and tried pond dipping.
1st - 3rd August: Pack

This year our theme was Harry
Potter. To find out more about our holiday look in the holiday section
