Staying safe in your community

These are the challenges included in the staying safe in your community section of our Wise Owl booklet.
Often we work on a challenge in a small group, but sometimes the whole Pack is involved.


Adventure

A1) Learn the Green Cross Code. Design an outfit to wear when out walking or a cycle helmet.
A2) Know what to tell your parents before going out, and what to do if a stranger talks to you. Discuss basic self defence.
A3) Know the order of the traffic lights and what each colour means. Make up a game or activity on this topic.
A4) Play a game that teaches you about the potential dangers of plastic bags, medicines and pills, scissors and other sharp objects, and chemicals.
A5) Know why you shouldn't play on railway lines. Discuss other placed in your neighbourhood which could be dangerous.
A6) Do another challenge that will help you stay safe.



Adventure On

AO1) Know the difference between road signs that are cicular, triangular and rectangular. Know at least one example of each.
AO2) Plan a fire escape route for your meeting place. Explain it to the other Brownies, and practice what you would do if there was a fire.
AO3) Know how to put a casualty in the recovery position. Discuss when you would do this, and when you should not.
AO4) Make up a game to teach younger Brownies about the potential dangers of plastic bags, medicines/pills, scissors/other sharp objects, and chemicals.
AO5) Know why you should never pick up surgical needles or touch someone else's blood.
A06) Explain how to protect your home from burglary when everyone is away from home.
AO7) Do another challenge that will help you stay safe.
