planet gareth : poems : a guitarist's apology

From the Steve Vai newsletter dated 16th April 2003:

"This month we're giving away three used drum heads from the recording sessions for Steve's new album. Each head was pounded out of shape by Steve's new drummer Jeremy Colson, and then autographed by Jeremy, Steve, Billy Sheehan and Neil Citron.

To win one of the three drum heads, simply write us in 100 words or less why we should give it to you. The most interesting and creative entries will win! We also have a number of sets of strings used by both Steve and Billy to record tracks on the album for the runners-up."

A Guitarist's Apology

I'm not sure what a drum head is - I've never played the drums.
I gave up on the bass as it was painful on my thumbs.
I started the piano but I didn't get that far,
Before I bought a plectrum and I learned to play guitar.

Apologies to Jeremy - I hope he doesn't mind,
But I don't think I'd know a drum head even if it's signed.
So while I'm sure they're lovely, I'd be puzzled by the things,
and thus I hope to finish fourth and win a set of strings.

I won some strings, hooray!
