Almonds

Once upon a time, there was a little, lonely tree
Surrounded by a ring of sleeping geese.
Occasionally, a passing breeze would make the branches shake
And a falling leaf or two might sometimes cause a goose to wake.
Often, one would turn around and slowly count to three
Before exploding, but all otherwise was peace.

"Written on a train to London, 7/3/98. So there."

I think this was James' fault. We were going to a party, and he told me to write a poem called "Almonds".
